  This is way too exaggerated. While iD is most visible, most data is
created not by iD. And it is not always possible to advice novice user
to use iD. For example iD only supports new "Russian water tagging
scheme" (everything blue is natural=water), so if a country had made a
decision to stick with original "standard OSM water scheme" (with
landuse=reservoir|basin|etc waterway=riverbank) it is impossible to
use iD as it does not support standard OSM water scheme. Note that
Russian water scheme never reached the standard water scheme in
popularity even with iD pushing for it.

  Same goes with "contact:*" scheme and probably a number of other
tagging schemes.
