In remote locations there are nurses that provide a very large range of
medical services.
Consider that a doctor may take some hours to arrive by aeroplane, life
saving medical procedures may have to be performed by the highest
qualified person available - and that may be the local nurse.
There is available a pdf book "Where there is no Doctor".
I suggest you read it if you want to know what people do without a Doctor.
