These tags has already been put forth in the landcover proposal [1], but I was just pointed to [2] where a user complained (rightfully) that the shape of the road on OSM mismatched the shape of the actual road.
As a consequence, I think we should add the `landuse=highway` in the list of officially-defined tags, especially given it is already used ~10k times. And encourage putting the relevant polygon inside the associatedStreet, because that would make sense. And potentially also add landcover=asphalt, because why not? FTR, google maps already has a similar feature, that is visible eg. at [3] What do you think about this?
