But not by virtue of the technology. Maglev can be used for local
transport as well (Birmingham airport is a historical example). The
maglev trains you are have in mind are just trains, using a different
propulsion system on an incompatible track. You would have the same
issue with conventional trains when switching gauge and overhead
voltage, for example near national borders.
We have ways of indicating the difference between main rail lines and
local transport, and they can be applied to maglev/urban monorails as
well. By all means add some technology tagging to that - gauge=0 for
example to indicate monorail?
