Here's what happened: 1. An in-use feature was documented on the wiki, but with a completely wrong description. 2. People used the bad definition worldwide. 3. The feature was marked deprecated on the wiki (without consulting the mappers using it correctly). 4. A blind mechanical edit on the feature was revered.
I am seeking comment on the following action 1. Mark the feature "defacto" in the wiki, since it's in use correctly. 2. Edit the obviously wrong uses, but not blindly. The feature is waterway=water_point, which is a place to fill a boat's fresh water holding tank. Load this feature up in the UK to see the proper tagging used. There's extensive and quite good mapping of this feature through the UK canal system: http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/8ZU http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:waterway%3Dwater_point The correct definition is: *waterway=water_point* *A place to fill the fresh water holding tanks of a boat.* It's unclear how to tag a leisure=marina that offers fresh water (there are at least schemes in use), but that's outside the scope here. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To the extent the wiki reflects current practice, the proper status seems to be "*defaco*". Note: Nobody's forced to use the tag. I encourage people to make positive proposals to move tagging forward, not engage in the armchair sport of shouting down proposals. Say "here's another solution to consider" rather than "no".
