Andreas,
I started a proposal for fitness_center.Originally the thought was to use
gym, but gym in other locations refers to facilities other than what I call
a gym. The owner of my old gym said that that fitness center was a correct
term. Using British English, it should probably be fitness_centre. Check
out the wiki page https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Fitness_center for
more information.

In my opinion, leisure or amenity would be an appropriate tag but not
sport. Sport is a game, golf, baseball, football, tennis, etc. Having gone
to the "gym" for a number of years, with little result I might add, it
definitely isn't a game.
