I propose to reduce inventing new landuses and start making
subcategories whenewer possible.

Recently I encountered landuse=plant_nursery, landuse=salt_pond,
landuse=greenhouse_horticulture and landuse=mine.

I think that all of them are overly specific and should be tagged as
subcategories
of more general landuses.

I fully agree.

The usage of subcategories (or more levels of cascading) is a great idea. Especially in case of farming landuse this idea could create a more structured tagging scheme. I think that a meadow should be tagged as landuse=farmland and farmland=meadow instead of landuse=meadow because it's only a variant of farmland (And maybe also an orchard should be tagged as landuse=farmland and farmland=orchard instead of landuse=orchard for the same reason).

Furthermore you idea of using subcategories for landuse purposes helped me to find a better tagging scheme for my own proposal (fieldmargins *1, I've already changed my proposal to use "cascading landuse tags").

Thanks for that.

Greetings
Simon / descilla
