Hi, I hadn't looked at the "milestone" wiki page before, assuming it referred to (the now historic) actual stone distance markers. Looking at the page, it seems to be used for modern signs. In the UK we have distance markers along motorways (Driver Location Signs). An example can be seen here:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:carriageway_ref In the picture: * M27 is the road reference (i.e. ref=M27) * B indicates that you are travelling on the main carriageway _towards_ the starting reference point of 0.0km (i.e. carriageway_ref=B) * 2.8 is the distance from the starting reference point in km (this is surely the "milestone" tag??) Yes, that's in km despite being in the UK. I believe that's called EU harmonisation :-) Rob
