terminal width of your boot VT and therefore defaults to '80'.

My terminal width is exactly 80, no need to verify.
And yes, I've checked by the above patch, line wrapping does not do any
harm to my screen (or to my eyes). Moreover, it saves some hand-writing
to a paper.
