A few days ago, I had a crazy thought of the lateral thinking variety.

What if the open source Calibree-Book management software were enhanced to
support SWORD Gen-Book module format for both import and export?

This could enable SWORD users to use Calibre to convert any of the e-Books in
their personal collection and read them with a suitable SWORD or JSword based
front-end app.

It would also facilitate users to convert the few existing Gen-Book modules in
our repositories and read them using their preferred e-Book reader.

Calibre being open source means there's no proprietary software involved.

All it would take is for some suitably skilled CrossWire software developer to
put the effort into adding these capabilities and options to Calibre.

We might even encourage Kovid Goyal to become a CrossWire volunteer, providing
he already has an interest in Christ and the Bible (not that I've ever
enquired).

Aside: I wonder if our associate Michael Johnson has ever considered whether
there might be features in Calibre that might be good to include in Haiola?

Best regards,

David
