Recently we had a discussion regarding nomina sacra, which is a Greek New
Testament manuscript abbreviation for sacred names. It is going back and forth
what is the appropriate markup: Name element or abbreviation element for
semantic markup and/or using the highlight element, hi, with overline. It was
noted that overline is supported in SWORD but not JSword.

I’d like to suggest that if the expansion element is present that it is
indexed/searched at the same position as the text.

Example, pretend this is Greek:
        For <abbr expansion=“God” type=“nomina-sacra">Gd</abbr> so loved the
world
Then a search for the exact phrase
        “God so loved the world”
would return the verse.

Not indexing/searching the expansion wouldn’t find God in the verse.

Having it at the same position is necessary for exact phrase search.

In Him,
        DM Smith
