Think of it as a lightweight VM. While VMs are fat, because they run a whole operating system inside just to run your software in isolated environment, Containers are very lightweight since they do that kind of isolation on the software level without the need to have a whole another operating system running inside.
Of course, they are not replacement for VMs, however, they provided a very lightweight replacement for a lot of scenarios. ________________________________ From: David Haslam <dfh...@protonmail.com> Sent: Saturday, December 30, 2017 9:26 PM To: sword-devel mailing list Subject: [sword-devel] Docker ? In a separate thread, DM wondered whether Docker<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Docker_(software)> might be a way forward. I know virtually nothing about it, save what I can read quickly. Let's hear from developers the pros and cons in the context of what we do in CrossWire. Best regards, David Sent with ProtonMail<https://protonmail.com> Secure Email.
