Greg:

Sorry, I am still, in many ways a Debian newbie. There must be some process whereby Sword front-ends and the back-end (e.g., libsword-utils) get into the packages. I have read somewhat on "package maintainers" and understand that they can be developers of the package they maintain. Is that correct, or do I recall falsely?

The audience of my request was the front-end developers and the utilities developers. Am I missing something here? I would appreciate some help if so.

Many thanks.

Tom

    Y'all:

Along the same lines as Cyrille's remarks:

This is a humble (recognizing that everybody is a volunteer and
busy) request to all front-end publishers to publish updates and (at
least) bug fixes in updated packages to both stable (currently
Stretch) and testing (currently Buster) versions of Debian and its
derivatives. Backports would also be acceptable.

In general the upstream developers and the distro packagers are not the same people. You will need to contact your distro package maintainers to get those updated.

Users of stable versions of operating systems should not have to
wait years for bug fixes, especially when the new version will have
    its own set of bugs.

May I suggest that these be included in release *1.8.1*

I was hoping these v11n could be in the next debian and so in
the next Ubuntu LTS (18.04). Is it so difficult to add it yet?

I would like to take this chance to
                        announce the immediate
                             availability of SWORD release 1.8.0.

I know this release has been a long time in
                        coming, but the
long time comes with lots of benefits for
                        users, developers,
and maintainers. The benefits to users and
                        developers are
                             mentioned elsewhere, throughout the code
                        and other places. The
main benefit to maintainers is that, now,
                        there are automated
tests in place and the release process is
                        now automated. This
means that future releases on that 1.8
                        branch can be easily
                             executed whenever needed.

Have a Merry Christmas, everyone! And keep
                        your eyes open for a
1.8.1 in the not too distant future to fix
                        up buildings in the
binding code. Otherwise, you can get the
