The bulk of "abbr" elements is used in the KJV in footnotes. I only looked in Xiphos where the rendering of footnotes is quite spartan. I am not sure if any other libsword based frontend is more "generous" in the rendering of footnotes. There are a few abbr elements in the KJV's body though - one for example is in the title of Revelation. Hover your mouse over the St of St John. A tooltip should appear saying "Saint" The OSIS element is transfered into xhtml which has the exact same element, but the OSIS attribute "expansion" becomes "title" in XHTML. The attribute in turn is offered by way of CSS as a tool tip. libsword offers to frontends a standard CSS sheet which make overriding of certain ways of rendering quite easy.
