ANY time you assume that poetry and prose markup neatly nest within verses, you WILL have problems if you process very many Bibles.
Poetry lines are marked by <l> (not ll) within <lg>, like:

<lg>
 <l level="1"><verse osisID="Ps.1.1" sID="Ps.1.1.seID.14420" n="1" />Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked,</l>
 <l level="2">nor stand on the path of sinners,</l>
 <l level="2">nor sit in the seat of scoffers;<verse eID="Ps.1.1.seID.14420" /></l>
</lg>
<lg>
 <l level="1"><verse osisID="Ps.1.2" sID="Ps.1.2.seID.14421" n="2" />but his delight is in Yahweh’s law.</l>
 <l level="2">On his law he meditates day and night.<verse eID="Ps.1.2.seID.14421" /></l>
</lg>
<lg>
 <l level="1"><verse osisID="Ps.1.3" sID="Ps.1.3.seID.14422" n="3" />He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water,</l>
 <l level="2">that produces its fruit in its season,</l>
 <l level="2">whose leaf also does not wither.</l>
 <l level="2">Whatever he does shall prosper.<verse eID="Ps.1.3.seID.14422" /></l>
</lg>
<lg>
 <l level="1"><verse osisID="Ps.1.4" sID="Ps.1.4.seID.14423" n="4" />The wicked are not so,</l>
 <l level="2">but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.<verse eID="Ps.1.4.seID.14423" /></l>
</lg>
<lg><l level="1"><verse osisID="Ps.1.5" sID="Ps.1.5.seID.14424" n="5" />Therefore the wicked shall not stand in the judgment,</l>
 <l level="2">nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.<verse eID="Ps.1.5.seID.14424" /></l>
</lg>
<lg><l level="1"><verse osisID="Ps.1.6" sID="Ps.1.6.seID.14425" n="6" />For Yahweh knows the way of the righteous,</l>
 <l level="2">but the way of the wicked shall perish.<verse eID="Ps.1.6.seID.14425" /></l>
</lg>

Note that although in the above example (Psalm 1, World English Bible), all of the verses start at the beginning of a line, I have seen cases where this is not true.

See the OSIS manual, 11.5.1, lg, for more details.

signature I was hoping I would be able to do a simple search and tag, but that will run into problems like we had last time we tried formatting poetry that crossed verse boundaries...will have to think of a better way then.

Once I figure out what should be done there, can I assume that <ll> is poetry or should I look for it with in <lg>?

Yes, there are many OSIS modules out there in the "wild" that have <ll> spanning verse boundaries.

I'm considering taking up working on some formatting of poetry in
BibleTime, and was wondering if I was safe in assuming that an <ll> tag
(should be in an <lg> if I'm remembering my tags correctly?) is always a
poetry/liturgy line? And are there any OSIS modules out there in the "wild"
that have <ll> spanning verse boundaries?
