It is not and never was any kind of competition.  It is simply the
objective fact that ThML is preferred for a lot of really very good
reasons in rather a lot of cases, and it's not going away.

Some non-trivial number of us continue to use ThML because It Just Works
in ways that OSIS seems unlikely ever to achieve.
