On bible text insert, I maintain a site for some of that kind of apps. It is
based on jsword and called gsword.

I have some webservice API on the site that I used it work with google
apengine, Twitter. I am also thinking to use it to work with android/iPhone to
make some tinny tools.
If you think you might like to try this approach but not want to run a site and
like to try on my site, please let me know.
