I think so, too.
Cross-Platform applications always are a compromise. Some of the  
frameworks more, some less.

What about Silverlight and JavaFX. Could be interesting. For me as a  
Java guy especially JavaFX.

I think not. Although I need to say that only the Mac is more  
different to Gnome or Windows desktops.
Java Swing applications look much more native on Windows/Linux than  
they do on Mac. Although Apple delivers Java with Aqua style widgets  
there still are font, toolbar and menu issues.
