I guess we are getting close to 1.5.8 (current topic on irc is The SWORD Project -- Open Source Bible Software -- let`s get 1.5.8 ready --- please, please, please, please, please) ;) but there are still a few bugs on the tracker.
If you haven't contributed before this might be just the thing for you. Go along to www.crosswire.org/bugs and register as you will need an account to access the tracker. Go to project SWORD and look at the roadmap. If there is anything unassigned then that means it is up for grabs. If you aren't sure about whether or not you want to try a bug send a mail to the list here to ask for help/advice.
Front-end developers - if there is anything wrong/missing from 1.5.8 that is essential then please post bugs for it.
There are other 'projects' in the bug tracker so bugs for the windows frontend, modules, swordweb, jsword, macsword etc should be filed separately.
