Orthographic lines are lines in the actual physical embodiment of a text. For example, if you have a line of poetry that has a line break, it will occupy 2 (or conceivably more) orthographic lines. Orthographic lines would not be marked in modern texts, but might be used in encoding inscriptions or in papyrological markup. They could be distinguished using the type attribute, if you really desired to do that.
