Look, I have very little money, and quite frankly, it cost me little more than $1.5 each to get a copy of the NIV and Good News Bible.
It is probable that it would be a bit more in the US, but the reality is that to buy the bible is dirt cheap. And if you can afford it, get one, and buy one for someone who doesn't have.
