I have no need to switch, my nice little Netopia plays bridge quite well and thus nicely delivers a 1500 MTU Ethernet link to my box. I guess on the Swisscom side they simply use DHCP option 82 to determine which user one is instead of doing user/pass auth ala PPP, much easier to deploy too IMHO.
