That's because you didn't set svn:keywords correctly. Setting svn:mime-type to application/* is a big no-no. There are a few exceptions, mostly sample data for regression tests etc. As a general rule, if you don't know how to do something, or if Subversion won't let you do what you're trying to do, you should ask someone instead of trying to work around Subversion.
