Hi everybody,

I hope you're doing great.

I would not want to spam this mailing list as I have the utmost respect for
my peers here, but I really believe that my news should be shared with you.

I'm writing to you to announce the release of our soundscape editor called
Echotopia <https://soundfellas.com/software/echotopia/>, currently for
Windows and soon for Mac/Linux.

I'm searching for interested peers who would like to use it so I can get
feedback from various creative sectors. I'm offering a free license to
anyone that's interested, and I'll be happy to get feedback on how you
would use it in your work or any ideas about changes and new features. You
see, Echotopia is still in its infancy, and now it's a good chance to pave
the way for its future. Learn more about Echotopia here:

Echotopia combines a 2D map editor with a stochastic audio player (similar
to game audio tools).

Some of Echotopia's features:

- Drawing layers on top of map images.
- Creating audio sources in layers.
- Audio sources can randomize or loop one or multiple sound files (random
container).
- Audio sources have stochastic behaviours to randomize playback and give
naturalness to the resulting audio.
- Each layer has reverberation and inward occlusion using impulse responses.
- You can hear the scene/map from any position by positioning the listener
object.
- You can export the audio from the listener's position to audio files up
to eight channels planar (octagon).
- It comes with a sound library of more than 20.000 sounds produced for
cutting-edge spatial/immersive audio practices (dereverberated, isolated,
noiseprints).
- The library also includes a lot of impulse responses for both
reverberation and occlusion.
- Preset system with storytelling taxonomy with more than 200
professionally-made presets covering all storytelling genres and settings.
- Projects and presets are portable.

What I believe makes Echotopia innovative as a workflow is that you can
start by working your sound concept on a map where your project's story
takes place, continue working there, and finally export the audio from any
location to use in your final product. For example, if a film scene is
taking place in an apartment and another scene outside on a road with
traffic, by using Echotopia with two layers (one with the sounds from the
street and one with the apartment with only the occlusion of the walls) you
can get the sounds of both outside and inside the apartment, so it's half
the sound design work. If the director moves the camera further in the
apartment and you move the listener further away from the source, it will
sound natural. So, it saves you the configuration of filters, reverb, etc.,
on those scene changes. Of course, this is just an example of how
cartographic sound design can elevate productions with such needs.

Echotopia can be used:

- To create ambiences for podcasts/audio dramas, audiobooks, and other
forms of aural storytelling media.
- To create ambiences for games and film.
- To map recorded ambiences from real places for soundscape preservation
and presentation.
- In escape rooms and installations using a conductor to create experiences.
- In dioramas and museums, to add the modality of soundscape on a physical
object or to augment the experience.
- In theatres and live performances, to play the appropriate ambience
according to the location where the story takes place.
- For tabletop role-playing games, to create an atmosphere in the room, to
communicate more info than a storyteller can describe, and to give aural
hints for exploration of the story world.
- For anyone who is a worldbuilder for entertainment media, to create or
even use soundscapes for inspiration.
- To teach about soundscape behaviour using a simple map interface.
- For fast and easy sound library production. You create the world and then
render any position to an audio file.

My team at SoundFellas and I have great plans for Echotopia, and we welcome
anyone who is interested in embarking on this journey of soundscape design.

With all that in mind, we are willing to give free licenses for the full
edition of Echotopia to anyone who is interested. Again, if you like a free
license, please use this form <https://forms.gle/BubjLHVaBmgxnzd6A> to send
us your request.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

My best regards to all,

Pan
