"With HOA each listener can use their own HRTF, with their own calibrated/corrected headphones and a headtracker."

At least, theoretically...   (This is the difference between "lab" and "real life", I suppose.)

Best,

Stefan

P.S.: Which was the beauty of the disputed method, in which you "record with your own hrtf" but can't apply headtracking.

However, it already works.... (Either as "lab reference", or even in "real life but only for one listener". ;-)

Unfortunately it won't sound as good to anyone else.

While that's true for a pair of miniature binaural mics mounted on your own ears, it's not true for a higher-order ambisonic (HOA) recording.
