Hello Andrew, Yes it was. I seem to recall the BBC had to get permission from Sansui to allow the use their Variomatrix chipset for H. At the time I thought nothing could beat a discrete system like JVC's CD-4 but H was far superior owing no doubt to the fact that the BBC incorporated a little psychoacoustic compensation, which of course was lacking in the discrete approach of CD-4.
