Probably the finest of the "point-source" speakers available these days is the KEF LS50. It uses a version of their Uni-Q driver. (A much earlier version of this driver was used in the KEF Egg.)

Measurements of the LS50 by John Atkinson (Stereophile magazine) show it to be an outstanding design.

It is quite small.
