There will be Titles released on the movies this autum using this technology
for 3D sound according to the presenter.

for those interested in a first-hand auro-3d experience, it's a major topic at the 27. tonmeistertagung in köln in november:

there will be one auro-3d lecture room, and another similarly equipped commercial exhibition space run by galaxy.

i'm not the world's biggest fan of the concept behind it (naturally), but their marketing efforts (and success) can only command respect from a humble dabbler in ambisonics. if you want to know how "slick" goes, take a look at their package.

a propos, the loudspeaker system in that auro room is going to be sweee-eee-eeet :)

As far as I understood it is a speaker feed based technology, the surround layer is
"normal" 5.1 with stereo back channels,
The second height layer is 5.0 with a layer of speakers placed above the normal
surround speakers, there was also talk about adding an additional roof speaker.

it is speaker-feed based, with the usual under-specified signal relationships which seem to be the hallmark of all such systems.

the auro guys define a number of speaker layouts, some of which include a roof speaker.
