uTorrent (pronounced mu-torrent).  This can
be configured to not serve files, although this
rather undermines the bit-torrent philosophy.

No.  There are no particular security problems
with bit-torrent.  However, many torrent
downloaders automatically serve files back to
the network, using up your bandwidth.
