Hi My now rather old and basic Surround Sound RX actually does have a setting called "3-stereo", which presumably synthesises a centre channel from the stereo feed. I've never tried it - but I might give it a go next time I'm listening to music in the lounge. I normally either use Pro-Logic (for general listening) or switch to Stereo if I'm listening to stereo music only.
