It isn't, I'm not a MAC user (as you could guess from my e-mail address).

Have a look at

to see that WAVEFORMAT and PCMWAVEFORMAT are marked (by MS) 
as 'obsolete'.

Strange. I'm not a MAC user and have been reading and writing
CAF files for years.
