earlier this year, i taped a recorder consort with the tetramic and the new soundfield st450 side-by-side. i can make some excerpts available some time next week as soon as i've finished another mix that's in the queue first. the noise floor is substantially lower in the st450, and its sound could be best described as "very warm". i didn't like the way it's tuned, but it's an exceptional microphone, and some eq makes it fit my taste :) but people who dislike soundfield recordings for their "documentary" and somewhat distanced sound might actually prefer this bassy character as "more emotional", so i can see what the designers have been aiming at. subjectively, of all the soundfields i've heard so far, the 450 seems to have the most precise localisation, almost on par with the tetra. and the treble range is a lot nicer. if i ever get to buy a sf, it'll be the 450. but at something like 4k pounds, it's also a very good reminder of how nice the tetramic is, in terms of price/performance :) -- Jörn Nettingsmeier Lortzingstr. 11, 45128 Essen, Tel. +49 177 7937487 Meister für Veranstaltungstechnik (Bühne/Studio) Tonmeister (VDT) _______________________________________________ Sursound mailing list [email protected] https://mail.music.vt.edu/mailman/listinfo/sursound
