at home now i am setting up an eight speaker system, about 50 watts
per channel, with a total cost including an eight channel d/a of
less than 400 USD. i only have to wire up the eighth loudspeaker
(why does inertia kick in right at end? i can understand at the
start. fear of failure?)
I find that it's rarely inertia that's the problem. These things are
always more complicated, and take a lot longer, than you expected. In
the meantime life keeps coming up with other things that have to be
dealt with and eventually you have to break off, tidy up, and deal
with them. It's often then hard to get started again, especially on
stuff that is repetitive and means that you have to untidy everything
again.
The problem when starting is not just 'fear of failure', but whether
it will all turn out to be a waste of time and money which could be
better spent on something else. Added to that is the attempt to think
well enough about it in the first place so that you have a good
approach, and a reasonably realistic idea of what is required, how
much it might cost, and how long it will take (even though you
realise that there are likely to be unforeseen problems e.g. your
electric drill dies, and your soldering iron burns out). This process
can often make a project seem somewhat daunting.
Ciao,
Dave
