Since about the time I installed SM2.52 on my wife's PC, the Windows Explorer no longer behaves as it used to.

Could the problem be caused by a recent installation of Edge or something else?

Selecting Windows Update takes one to something new called 'Libraries' and does not allow a user to thoroughly search through folders and files.

Thanks, in advance, for any advice or pointers to appropriate tutorials.

According to your user-agent you are running Windows 7. I had thought Edge was not installable on anything older than Windows 10 but now I see it has been available for Windows 7 and 8.1 for a year now. That "Libraries" you are unhappy about is described in https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/client-management/windows-libraries and if you have installed (a new version of) Edge recently I'd tend to assume that Edge is the cause.
You might as well just live with it.
