Thank you for helping me with fixing a part of my world I know very little about...computers.

I made the changes you recommended and I am not able to access my AOL mail from SeaMonkey.  I attempted to download my email messages from AOL after the changes were made and this is the error message I received:

Error with account [email protected]
Request failed Mailbox unavailable.  Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again.

I have two accounts in SeaMonkey...one account is for my newsgroups and browsing the internet.  The second (titled AOL) account is used for downloading email messages from AOL to SeaMonkey.  I believe a select look at the two accounts tells me that something is wrong between the two accounts.  Thus, I am sending select account settings for both accounts for your review.

You can't use an AOL server for a Verizon POP email account. I just found that it appears you can for a Verizon IMAP account.

[excertptquote] Update server settings

Most email software and applications have an account settings menu where you'll need to update the IMAP or POP3 settings.

When entering your account info, make sure you use your full email address, including @verizon.net, and that the SSL encryption is enabled for incoming and outgoing mail.

Protocol Server Settings Port Settings
POP 3

Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.verizon.net POP3-995-SSL
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net SMTP-465-SSL

IMAP

Incoming mail server (IMAP): imap.aol.com IMAP-993-SSL
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net SMTP-465-SSL

Pick one and fix your settings.

Other options are to use Web mail from <https://www.aol.com/> or use the account wizard in Thunderbird to setup the POP Verizon account.

Just enter your name, email address and password, then click the "Continue" button, when it finds the server settings click "Done".

Then use those settings to configure your SeaMonkey mail.
