Wow, he even tried with the version from SeaMonkey (translated from Google):

I've not had any such issues in Ubuntu 14.04 or 15.04. Perhaps a
language pack issue? Do you have a language pack installed? If so, can
you please try just running directly and without a language pack?

Download the 64bit version here and put into a new _home_ folder
(/home/<username>/SeaMonkey) - do not attempt to install or run in /opt
or other system folder:

https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/releases/2.35/contrib/seamonkey-2.35.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2

extract into that folder:
tar jxvf seamonkey-2.*.tar.bz2

and then run SeaMonkey directly from the extracted seamonkey folder:
~/SeaMonkey/seamonkey/ ./seamonkey

As long as you do not attempt to update/add any add-ons or plugins, this
will not affect your existing 2.33 version. Do not add any language
packs, just test in english.

See if that makes any difference.

Note: I generally only run SeaMonkey from the SeaMonkey builds in my
/home folder, but I just tested the Ubuntuzilla build on 14.04:

dpkg -l | grep seamonkey
ii seamonkey-mozilla-build
2.35-0ubuntu1 amd64
Mozilla Seamonkey, official Mozilla build, packaged for Ubuntu by the
Ubuntuzilla project.
User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/38.0 SeaMonkey/2.35
Build identifier: 20150825182814

and do not experience the problems you encountered.
