It's been ages since I did it (since Mozilla Suite days, I think), but
it used to work.  You just needed a Windows profiles.ini with
backslashes and a Linux profiles.ini with (forward) slashes.

Thank you for this, Q!! Just now, when I read David's response, above, I was mentally composing my response, something like ....

Windows7 profile.ini reads profile location as E:\Internet\Profile\Profile
Linux profile.ini reads profile location as mnt/win_e/Internet/Profile/Profile

Different structure, but each read correctly be the appropriate OS!
