Edit/Preferences/Appearance/Content: "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or
reload the page". This is not selected by default, so chances are you set it
yourself.

Thanks; you're right on all counts. Who knew that "appearance" could
be so "fatal" under the right circumstances.
