2) Unfortunately imho the "collect all" address collection function
to get all addresses from to or cc sent address lists in received
e-mails is not given any more since the days mozilla evolved from
netscape. Or have I overlooked something? How can I quickly (one
click) harvest all e-mail addresses from an incoming mail into my
address book?
Look for them in your "Collected Addresses" address book, move them to
your Personal Address Book or whatever AB you like. You can edit them
before or after the move.
The original post started by saying that problem one was not being able
to move addresses from Collected Addresses into other books, how is
using what doesn't work a solution for problem two? Not to mention what
he really wants is to get the addresses from incoming mail, to avoid
sending everyone a mail saying "my mailer is too dumb to collect an
address unless I send mail to it."
This is more a display issue than a functional one. Dragging a record
from one address book to another /appears/ to fail, because the address
does not appear in the target AB, but it really has been moved, SM just
fails to display it there. Closing and reopening the AB shows that it
really did move, but the user is easily misled into thinking it didn't.
In SM 2.1.1pre if I select the Collected Addresses book, pick an address I can
drag and drop the address into any other book. And it happens right away, and
the book name highlights so I'm sure which book I'm dropping into, and the
record is in the new book without restarting, reboot, or sprinkling of holy
water. In other words, it works.
In SM 2.2 none of that happens, while I do it, after I do it, etc. It doesn't
work at all in any way. Your "easily misled" comment implies that it works in
some secret way which makes the record still appear in the Collected book and
not in the Personal book. I can open and close the AB, restart SM, reboot the
computer, and it looks like it didn't work because it doesn't.
I call that absolutely not working. Maybe I'm easily mislead by nothing useful
happening.
If you do "reply all" and "send later" the mail sits in your outbox, you
can open the outbox and click "add to Address Book" on each name. That
sucks marginally less than typing them by hand.
Yeah, that would work, too. In both cases -- your way and going through
the Collected Addresses AB -- the first and last name are not parsed
into separate fields (in case that matters to you).
Wasn't my issue, at least there's a semi-sane way to do it.
