I am using SeaMonkey 2.0 and have had very few problems except for the
one regarding copying and pasting text. I have read comments about
McAfee (which I have) and their "site adviser," but I do not have that
installed. At any rate, the copying/pasting problem is so random that I
can live with it.
I would now like to load SeaMonkey 2.0 on a laptop computer and use all
the profile data from my desktop computer on it. If I was to copy the
.slt folder from my desktop to a memory stick, could I direct SeaMonkey
2.0 to import that profile to the laptop? Thanks.
There have been several postings about this subject over the history of
the group. You may want to search the history of the group.
Three questions:
First, how do I search the history of the news group? Use Google?
Actually you can search with Google, though it will show the Google
Groups version. Try searching in SeaMonkey, there is a search field
right above your list pane on the right of the mail/news window. Type a
keyword such as "profile" in there, and see what comes up.
Second, I thought SeaMonkey 2.0 placed the profile in a new location? If
I use Mozbackup to put the old profile (1.8) on the new computer, won't
it place it in a different location than what SeaMonkey 2.0 expects?
See my response to you from earlier. There is no slt file in 2.0, and
yes, the profile is in a new location. When you installed SM 2.0 on the
first machine, it converted your profile to the new program, and stored
it in the new location. There are now two profile folders, one is the
old location for SM 1.1.18, called xxxxxxxx.slt, and one in the new
location for SM 2.0 called xxxxxxxx.default.
You want to transfer the SM 2.0 profile to the second machine, there is
no point in transferring the 1.1.18 profile.
Lastly, copying the complete profile copies Prefs.js as well, doesn't
it? In that file I believe there are references to the profile location.
If it is wrong due to the new location of SeaMonkey, will it cause
problems?
That's why you don't copy the old profile, you copy the new 2.0 version,
which has its own prefs.js with its own references.

I can't give directions concerning MozBackup, its Windows only, and I
don't use Windows. However, the manual move I described in my in my
earlier response does work, and I've done it many times on Macs, Linux
boxes, and on Windows.
