Unless the installation instructions explicitly state otherwise, I
normally install any new version of an application over a prior version.
 This includes not only SeaMonkey 1.1.x but also SeaMonkey extensions
(other than FlashBlock), Adobe Reader, Java Runtime Environment, Flash,
Thunderbird,  Thunderbird extensions, and Real Player.  Off hand, I can
only remember the FlashBlock extension requiring removal before
installing a new version.

Go to Mozdev at <http://www.mozdev.org/> for quick access to
extensions for Firefox, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, and other
Mozilla-related applications.  You can access Mozdev much
more quickly than you can Mozilla Add-Ons.
