I'd just move the whole Verizon folder structure into Local Folders (while SeaMonkey is shut down) So your folder pane becomes: .->Local Folders->news.verizon.net->(lots of verizon newsgroups) Now they are all local folders, SeaMonkey never checks any news server. Once you've verified this works, you can go into account settings and delete the verizon news account.
