Welcome to STAF!
You do not need to use STAX jobs (which are written in xml) to use STAF.
STAX is a STAF service that builds on top of STAF, XML, and Python to
provide a STAF execution engine but it is not needed to use STAF.
You can interact with STAF from many programming/scripting languages
(Java, C/C++, Python, Perl, Tcl) and from the command line/shell prompt.
See the "API Reference" section in the STAF User's Guide (at
http://staf.sourceforge.net/current/STAFUG.htm#HDRAPIREF) as it provides
information about the STAF C/C++ APIs and provides links to STAF API
guides for Java, Python, Perl, and Tcl:

Subject: [staf-users] Using staf without XML job descriptions?
Hi,
I am very new to STAF, and my first impression is that there are good
features proposed (communication between nodes, mutex, key-value store,
resource pools, logging, etc), but I am skeptical about programming in
XML. It seems to me that developing, testing and maintaining XML code like
this one

will be far from optimal.
Can someone tell me if using STAF without this XML programming is
possible?
