Yes, whatever fiewall you have installed on the submitting machine and on
the machine you're trying to ping.

Can your Windows machine do a STAF ping to any other machines? (assuming
you have STAF running on some other machines)

What operating system is the remote machine running?

Can the remote machine do a STAF ping of your Windows machine? If so,
what is the output of the following submitted from the remote machine.

STAF <Your Windows machine's IP address> MISC WHOAMI

On your Windows machine where you are trying to submit the ping request,
what is the output of the following:

STAF <Your Windows machine's IP address> MISC WHOAMI

Hi,

A non-STAF ping works either way between the machines. I have read that
column and tried everything it indicates. About removing the firewall, it
is just the windows firewall right?
I have disabled the firewall. Is there anything else I could check on?
Thanks!

Can you do a non-STAF ping from your Windows machine to 10.0.23.1 (e.g.
ping 10.0.23.1)? You have to be able to do that in order for a STAF ping
to work (as STAF uses TCP/IP to communicate to remote machines).

See sections "3.1.3 Explain RC 16 when attempting to send a STAF request
to a remote machine" and "3.1.4 Why can't my STAF machines communicate? "
in the STAF FAQ at http://staf.sourceforge.net/current/STAFFAQ.htm#d0e930
for some possible reasons and workarounds.

Hi,
I am a new user of STAF. I have installed it on my machine. I am not able
to communicate with a remote machine that is running STAF.

This is the error that I get :

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\Deepthi_Venkatachala>staf 10.0.23.1 ping ping
Error submitting request, RC: 16
Additional info
---------------
STAFConnectionProviderConnect: Timed out connecting to endpoint: select()
timeou
t: 22, Endpoint: ssl://10.0.23.1

Any ideas as to how I can resolve this issue?

Thanks!
