The binary packages for the next release of STAF (V3.4.3, which is planned
to be released Sept 30, 2010) will no longer support the following older
operating system versions. These operating system versions are no longer
vendor supported, and we will be upgrading our build machines to newer
versions of the operating systems.

- Solaris 2.8 and 2.9 (Sparc 32-bit) will no longer be supported. Solaris
10 or later (Sparc 32-bit) will be supported.
  See http://www.sun.com/service/eosl/eosl_solaris.html for more details.

- AIX 5.1 and 5.2 (32-bit and 64-bit) will no longer be supported. AIX 5.3
or later (32-bit and 64-bit) will be supported.
  See http://www-01.ibm.com/software/support/systemsp/lifecycle/ for more
details.

- Linux SLES 8 PPC64-32 will no longer be supported. Linux SLES 9 or later
(PPC64-32) will be supported.
  See http://support.novell.com/lifecycle/ for more details.

- FreeBSD 4.10 to 7.2 (i386) will no longer be supported. FreeBSD 7.3 or
later (i386) will be supported.
  See http://www.freebsd.org/security/ for more details.

Note that we will not be changing any of the source code to remove support
for these older operating system versions. However, since we will be
building STAF on the newer operating system versions, the binary packages
that we provide will not work on the older operating system versions. If
you still require STAF for these older operating system versions, you can
use older versions of STAF, or you can build a future version of STAF from
source code on the older operating system versions. The STAF Developer's
Guide at http://staf.sourceforge.net/current/stafdg.html provides
information on how to build STAF.

Also, we no longer provide Linux IA64 (Itanium) binary packages for STAF.
STAF V3.4.1 was the final STAF release which provided STAF binary packages
for Linux IA64. This is because our Linux IA64 build machine experienced a
hardware failure and we cannot fix or replace it. Note that RedHat
announced in December 2009 that it is dropping support for IA64 in RHEL 6.
The predominate 64-bit architecture for Linux is x86-64 (aka AMD64) which
STAF will continue to support. If you still require STAF for Linux IA64,
you can use STAF V3.4.1, or you can build a later version of STAF from
source code on Linux IA64.

If you have any concerns about these changes, please respond with details.

Thanks,
David
