I'm not sure that you would need "a". STAF's connection providers are
used for communication between two instances of STAF. So, unless the
hardware device itself was going to directly run some port of STAF, then
you wouldn't need to create any connection providers. Having said that,
you might create services that talked those low level protocols if that
made sense.

Your thoughts in "b" and "c" sound spot on. I've seen a lot of people do
"c". I've heard of a few that have done "b". In general, it sounds like
you have a good handle on what you want to do. As you progress, it would
be interesting to hear a little more about your overall test
infrastructure and strategy (if that's something you can share).

[staf-users] Hardware testing

Hi,

Our company is looking at using STAF for testing our electronic products
on the production line. I was wondering if there is anyone who is doing
the same or if someone could tell me if this could be done using STAF.

My quick take on the problem is:
a) I need connection providers to communicate to the hardware (RS232
and GPIB in my case)
b) I need services for the hardware protocols (SLIP (and a few
proprietary ones) in my case)
c) I need services for the each product’s control interface (the
product API)

Any info/suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

Jannie.

P.S. I really hope this is possible. STAF looks like an excellent testing
framework and I would love to use it.
