This is most likely a TCPIP/DNS issue, where the machine running the
process cannot communicate back to the STAX service machine to notify it
that the process has completed. When the problem occurs, you can verify
this is the problem by running "STAF <stax-machine-hostname> PING PING" on
the RHEL5 VMware image, to see if it can communicate with the STAX service
machine.
See section "4.1.2 Why is STAX still showing a process as running, even
though it has completed?" of the STAF FAQ
(http://staf.sourceforge.net/current/STAFFAQ.htm) for more information.

[staf-users] STAX job does not terminate
Greetings,
I am experiencing an issue where a STAX job does not terminate. The
curious part is that the identical script used to run to completion.
Details follow. Any insight or tips would be much appreciated.
STAX job runs through STAXMon on physical WinXP machine.
it invokes a .sh script on a RHEL5 VMWare image (wsadmin.sh, cmd line mgmt
utility in WAS/WPS) to install a new enterprise archive (.ear)
the .sh script appears to run to completion, as evidenced by the .ear file
having been installed successfully
the STAX job sits idle for hours afterwards, no CPU or memory being
consumed
the identical STAX script, executed from the same physical WinXP machine
completed successfully when the target machine was not a VMWare image, but
a physical box (also running RHEL5). Now, having run other STAX jobs to
completion on VMWare images I am not convinced that the failure to
terminate is because the target is a VMWare image.
All STAF processes use the same version of STAF
Thanks,
- Stephan
