We would like to do it dynamically , and not using the STAF.cfg file. Any
ideas?

The STAF Data directory (reflected in variable STAF/DataDir) is set using
the "SET DATADIR <directory>" statement in the STAF.cfg file. The variable
STAF/DataDir merely reflects the value that is set in the STAF.cfg (or the
default value if none was specified in the STAF.cfg). Setting STAF/DataDir
will have no effect on the actual data directory being used by STAF. There
is no way to dynamically alter this configuration setting.

If you change the STAF data directory, you will, indirectly, change the
directory where STAF log files are located. If you want the log files
stored in a directory not bound by the STAF data directory, then you can
explicitly register the STAF Log service in your STAF.cfg file and specify
the DIRECTORY parameter. See sections 8.8.2 and 8.8.3 of the STAF User's
Guide for more details.
