Patrick,

What is in that Attic Space above the concrete that might start a fire and burn
the roof off?

Subject: [Sprinklerforum] Attic space

Good afternoon everyone,

I ran into an interesting scenario today, not sure what to make of it:

Assisted living facility, 2 stories.

Steel beam construction with corrugated steel deck pan and poured concrete.

The roof above the second level is same, corrugated deck with poured concrete.

On top of that, there is metal roof framing with plywood sheathing and asphalt
shingles.

It appears that the roof/attic is completely separated from the inhabitable
space via the poured concrete.

It looks like the building is sprinklered to NFPA 13 considering that small
closets and baths are not omitted.

Clients insurance underwriter is concerned that this attic space is not
sprinklered.

Has anyone seen this. And do we think its acceptable?

Thank you,
