We have seen multiple cases where the sub who was supposed to do the tenting
and insulating cut corners and the system froze. We won't bid for that method
anymore. MattSent from my T-Mobile 5G Device

[Sprinklerforum] Re: "Tenting" NFPA 13 (2019) Section 16.4.1.3. It references
insulated coverings as acceptable. I have seen several insulation applications
where chicken wire is used to hold the insulation in place. The box is kind of
overkill. Todd G Williams, PEFire Protection Design/ConsultingStonington,

Yes, had an experience where the local building official required that the
piping be protected with tented insulation and then we had to build a plywood
box around the piping. I would have taken our objection to the State Fire
Marshall
and Building Officials, but the GC decided it was easier and quicker to just
do it at his cost. I tried to explain that they made servicing the sprinkler
system in the future way more difficult, but he just couldn’t get it. It was
infuriating and made worse
by the GC agreeing with the ridiculous requirement which only served to
embolden him.

Anybody ever have an engineer reject plans saying “tenting” of insulation over
pipe is not acceptable?

Thank you,
